Pull-Out Pantry Drawers
A deep kitchen cupboard offered plenty of space, but made ingredients difficult to reach. Three custom pull-out drawers—built from durable red oak and extending more than 40 inches—turned it into practical, accessible storage. Each drawer holds over 100 pounds and features a cutaway handle for comfortable use.
Project Design and Layout
The existing cupboard provided generous storage, but its extra depth made ingredients difficult to see and reach. The design called for three custom pull-out drawers that would extend more than 40 inches, bringing the full contents of the cupboard into view. Built from strong red oak, each drawer was planned to hold over 100 pounds and feature a centered cutaway handle for comfortable use.

Milling the Materials
Strong, durable red oak was selected for the drawers because of their unusual depth and the amount of weight they needed to support. Each piece was measured, cut, and prepared to create three drawers extending more than 40 inches into the cupboard. The natural oak would later be finished with a clear lacquer, preserving its warm color and distinctive grain.

Assembly Before Finishing
After the red oak components were milled, each drawer was assembled and checked for fit, alignment, and smooth operation. Because the drawers extend more than 40 inches and were designed to hold over 100 pounds each, the construction needed to be both strong and precise. A centered cutaway handle was shaped into the front of each drawer for a comfortable, unobstructed grip.

The Completed Installation
Once assembled, the drawers were left natural and protected with a durable clear lacquer finish that highlights the warmth and grain of the red oak. They were then installed on full-extension slides inside the existing deep-green cupboard. The completed drawers bring the full depth of the cabinet into view, making stored ingredients easier to see, reach, and organize.
