Patio Railing & Gate
This custom patio railing, gate, and seating were designed for a rented townhouse where a permanent fence could not be installed. Three free-standing sections create a safe, defined patio space for the Goldendoodle while blending with the existing railings throughout the community.
Project Design and Layout
Because nothing could be permanently attached to the townhouse, the enclosure needed to be stable while remaining completely free-standing. The design was developed around the patio’s dimensions, using the benches as both functional seating and substantial railing sections. Concealed support beneath the landscape rock helps stabilize the pieces without disrupting the finished appearance.

Building the Components
The short bench, wide bench, and gate section were built separately and sized for their specific locations. Repeated vertical pickets, broad top rails, and matching construction details give the three pieces a coordinated appearance.
The benches provide useful outdoor seating while also forming sturdy sections of the enclosure. The center gate completes the boundary and provides convenient access to the patio.

Installation
At the townhouse, the three free-standing sections were positioned together to enclose the patio without being permanently attached to the building. The pieces were carefully aligned so the gate could open easily while the two benches remained stable and level.
The Completed Project
The completed enclosure blends with the surrounding community railings and looks like a purposeful part of the outdoor space. The two benches add comfortable seating, the gate provides easy access, and Phoenix can safely enjoy the patio.
